Martial Arts together as a family.

Salter Family

Ever wondered how to spend more quality time together as a family while also learning something new? Martial arts might be the answer you’re looking for.

In my years of teaching, it’s always inspiring to see families step onto the mats together. Family martial arts classes go beyond learning techniques—they’re about growing as a unit and supporting each other’s progress, both in and out of the dojang. When parents and children train side-by-side, something special happens: challenges become shared, and victories are celebrated together.

Why Train as a Family?

  • Shared Goals & Values: Working towards the same belt or mastering a new skill puts everyone on the same path. It’s a great way to reinforce respect, perseverance, and encouragement as family values.
  • Stronger Communication: Training together builds better communication, whether you’re practicing new techniques or cheering each other on from the sidelines.
  • More Quality Time: With busy schedules, finding time together isn’t always easy. Family classes mean a regular appointment for active, meaningful time that’s fun for all ages.
  • Healthier Habits: Working up a sweat together can make staying active feel less like a chore and more like an adventure.

One of my favourite moments is watching a parent help their child through a tricky pattern, or seeing siblings support each other through a tough session. The bonds built on the mats carry over into daily life—at home, at school, and beyond.

If you’ve been thinking about how martial arts could benefit everyone in your household, now might be the perfect time to try it out together. You can always see our class times and locations to find a family session that works for you.

Whether you’re new to martial arts or already training, bringing your family into the journey can make all the difference—and those memories will last a lifetime.

See you (and your loved ones) on the mats!
